Absolutely right. Its happening here too. My son was bullied, lacked self-esteem and confidence. No extra help or support. How are asd kids going to manage in later life whn it comes to getting a job and keeping it? Anybody in government care to answer that one? No course not to busy taking everything from kids... cut backs. How do they expect asd kids to get a job.... learn life skills. Worrying time

I ended up home educating for years not electively but because I had no choice if I was to meet my sons educational needs. It's a shambolic disgrace.

I am a retired teacher with over 30 years experience in schools so I am all too aware that ASD pupils are being failed by mainstream schooling. There needs to be more additional staff with specialist knowledge in the classroom so that ASD pupils are given the same life chances as all other pupils.

We need support assistants one to one for mainstream or an Asd school with smaller classes

Couldn't agree more. My son is currently unable to access mainstream education although he doesn't meet criteria to attend a specialist school. As a result I feel forced into home education which is something I don't want to given the choice.

Mainstream school failed my ASD daughter big time. Gave assurances they were an all inclusive school but at the first sign of a problem they excluded her. Caused us as a family lots of anxiety.

I think more help should be put into helping children that need & could benefit from the help in mainstream school. My little boy has been let down by school

I feel very strongly about this petition as I have a 16 year old daughter who's been badly let down by mainstream education. She's waiting for diagnosis for ASD and been unable to attend school for 3 years as there was no support for her. Instead we were threatened that she must go to school or court action. She then went to a very dark place and depression & acrophobia set in. Three years later we're getting there but the experiences has had a devastating effect and is sadly extremely common. Please ensure this is prevented from happening anymore!

So true. I have 2 children with SEN that both been failed by mainstream schools. I have had 7 years of battling this horrific system and it does not get any better. Professionals need to be held accountable for this awful treatment of our children

I feel my son is being set up to fail in mainstream school, he is also a target to his peers. Breaks my heart to see him struggle. He has been excluded several times and the teachers are not trained or equipped to understand his needs. He is constantly stressed out and Anxious and we have a battle to get him to school in the morning.

Agree wholeheartedly with this. Mainstream fails but no suitable provision for high functioning autistic kids. My daughter has Been excluded so many times I've lost count, both formally and informally. Plus had reduced timetables inflicted on her a number of times!
