My son with ASD suffered trauma, depression and nearly three years out of appropriate education due to mainstream not meeting his needs.

I live in South England and as a mom with aspergers who has a daughter with aspergers (awaiting diagnosis) there is no differences as such between when I was little and her primary school... social interactions are hard and often she is ignored which is causing anxiety and the feeling of unwanted Ness and she's only 7... this will eventually lead to depression at a young age... if I home schooled her then I'd be taking away her rights to learn how to socialise but I will admit this is become more and more a possibility so that she doesn't feel like she has no friends and feels stupid in class. Educating staff of autism and the child's social interaction issues should be mandatory and more staff to support kids not only in the class room but in playground as often girls especially are seen as having no issues coz teachers/ta/supervisors don't see what's under their noses... bullying starts young. Very young... I've seen kids bullying from year one up... it's heartbreaking...

I have children with disabilities all in the autistic spectrum and the experiences I have had as a mother and for my child has been disgusting and unacceptable. Each child deserves the same education and support to achieve their goals

My 7year old son has ASD. He is in public school and is completely lost. I am fighting for him to get a shadow to keep him on track throughout the day. IEP meeting today. I am not hopeful. I already have him on the waiting list to be homeschooled.

my experience is that institutional bullying occurs because many of the 'professionals' involved want to try and force nuerotypical responses from nuerodivergent children and become angered by the children's inability to respond in that way

This is unfortunately the case throughout the country. My child has struggled with the mainstream environment and lack of correct support for 4 years now resulting in serious mental health issues for all the family.

The school my son attends is fantastic with him. As well as having ASD he also has ADHD along with several other issues. However it is the Educational Board who are failing him. He is stuck at stage 2 on his IEP until he is seen by the Educational Phycologist, whenever that will be. He is currently in P6 and has been saying that once P7 is over he is being homeschooled as he will not be going to High school!

It's not had any inprovements in ten years. I have that with that decade gap between my children and my daughter is going through an aweful time in an ofstead 1 school. No support we r left alone. My son has now failed sixth form and uni, 3 years later. How demoralising. Not their fault. WhAt happened to the campaign 'every child matters?' It's vanished, like the will for my kids to try. Kids and parents don't matter, it's all about the majority, academic kids. Thought we were supposed to be a fair society?

As a parent with Aspergers and a mother of 3 children . Two of which are going through a Aspergers assessment at present. I am sick and tired of school failing my children. Not understanding and meeting their individual needs on a daily basis. Our children need to be heard and supported through their educational school life.
Thank you
