Our little town in Maine has 3x the Due Process complaints against our district (special Ed) than the largest district in our state. Our school removed our ASD child's 1:1 at lunch, stating the lunch to monitor could help him. He had a terrible incident occur as a result.

I have two teens with Autism and both have been failed by mainstream school! lack of knowledge & how to cope with children with Autism is a nightmare! My children have both on going mental health treatment as they didnt want to be alive due to affects of them being in Mainstream! Had to fight them to get my youngest placed in support unit but not for autism! My son who is now in college is having severe meltdown because he cant cope at college & paperwork and wont ask for help due to way he was treated by teachers at school! It is a disgrace and something needs fo change! Frustrated parent! I for one will be backing you all the way!

the only time i ever met the head was when my sons grades dropped. she had no interest in his diagnosis. he was taunted by teachers aswell as children for his sensitivity, meltdowns and chronic constipation. bring back nuture!

I was forced to place my daughter in Fals because that was only choose I had do to everyone being in inclusion. Some kids can't work in that environment. I believe for some they r learning nothing they r just there it's beyond them. They r just being pushed through or left behind. R kids matter too.

There is a glaring discrepancy between modified materials and modified instruction. If you send home reading material that is 2 grade levels above where the student is, that's not only ineffective, it's cruel.

Good intentions are not good enough. Our children need proper help and care from their first day at school to their very last.

I live in Al and there are very little options given if any on how to work with and get our autistic kids in school and with the rt teacher that is knowledgeable of the autistic spectrum. That kind of help is non existent in my county.

Absolutely agree 100% But keep as much Big Government out of it as possible. It's way cheaper & will actually work better. We're all just one large, extended community.

KKI would be one of the best models for how to work with children on the spectrum. Can't stand CALS program.

More and more children with Autism enter the public schools nationwide every year. These topics have to be addressed.

Mainstream is failing these children. Here is to the success of the Ausum Academy Plymouth.
