Definetly not enough training for teachers. Also too many children in each class.

Some teachers try but some have no time to forfil the education needs to the extent autistic kids need to learn. ie one to one support or smaller number classes . The thing is in a class of 32 children which most have at least 3 have autisim or ahdh or in my daughters case both thats bot mentioning any other kids with dyslexia or behavioural problems. Or even EAL children.

I would love to know who the big shot is that makes the decisions for our kids lives, and what their decisions are based on. What information are they basing their decision to force autistic children in to mainstream school. It is mental abuse on the councils part. I am lucky my daughter got into an ASN school and has a class of 4 children where the staff ratio is 1:1. I fully support all the parents & carers out there because this is what autistic children need and deserve, their right to a proper education and also for their safety.

It's an absolute dog race the way our autistic children are being neglected of a education to meet there need and help them thrive in there way of understand for the big bad world ahead . And for the well learn them there way they don't have the money , staffing or materials to do so so that's lies .

Inclusion is a great idea in principle but the experience and expertise should be there to support all children with additional support needs.

My stepson is in a main stream school. The teachers know his situation. An yet still make him sit alone in a corridor. An take his concentration toy off him. The ther it be blue tack of a piece of plastic he can twist. It was that bad he started self harming. He's only just turned 9.

I am a teacher of a class of 6 severely autistic children in a special school and they would never be able to learn anything in a mainstream school.

This is so true but due to finances etc these kids are getting failed there is only so much one teacher with limited or no autism training with a class of over 30 can do for one child. I am all for our kids staying in mainstream but schools need more resources better staff training, more staff and more finances for these kids. Mum of four boys one with ASD.

My son goes to a mainstream school with a unit to support kids with ASD and kids with special needs, they are a great school and great support as he needs all support possible as main stream didn't meat his needs, they do their best to encourage Owen with everything that all other kids do also encourage Owen to participate in all activities same as others.
