There should be the same level of education given to all children in mainstream schools..

I am also experiencing difficulties in the education establishment, even more so now,as my 12yr old is facing transition into highschool soon. Most parts of Scotland are failing autistic pupils due to lack of funding and no available places in units readily available.

Not all kids flourish in mainstream schools so we need specialised school too

More education and training needed for staff who are willing to make the time to learn

Teachers and faculty need to have better training to understand our children and they need to be given the resources to do so. My sons teacher is amazing with him but, his school lacks resources that would benefit not just the autistic children but, all of the children.

The problem with trying to put square pegs into round holes is not that they wont go but it's the damage you do hammering the pegs to fit it

All teachers in mainstream schools should be trained in teaching & supporting autistic children. My son who is autistic has spent 7 years at a mainstream primary school and we have encountered 7 years of struggling to get him there everyday due to the lack of understanding or training from any teachers within the school having any understanding of his needs. There is no alternative school in my area for my son to attend for asd, so we have been told we just need to accept things the way they are. Due to budgets being cut, the education board will not put any additional asd trained staff or support within the school. School has had a negative impact on my son for the last 7 years due to the lack of support & training.

I work in a mainstream secondary... and the teachers don't have enough training on how best to deal with a pupil with ASD and certainly do not have enough time to be adapting the curriculum for pupils with ASD. I would have supported this transition from ASL school to mainstream had the implementation of this been better organised! Teachers trained and given extra curriculum prep time! But let's face it with the council cutting teaching staff and support staff right left and centre this just will never happen!!!
