Maggie's Story

On
June 28, 2015 our "daughter", "sister" and family companion
for 17 years was tragically and unexpectedly taken from us while in the care of
a trusted boarder during our family vacation. After that initial shock, sadness
and anger of losing Maggie we were shocked to learn that kennels and
boarders in Indiana are not regulated by state statute and therefore our
boarder had no license or legal responsibility to take care of Maggie. We love
our pets as family yet there are no protections in place to ensure that while
in the care of others that they will receive that same care. By telling
Maggie's story we hope to gain the support of the Indiana legislature to enact
pet protection laws in Indiana. Missouri has enacted laws that protect pets,
regulate the pet care industry, and ultimately give the pet owner piece of mind
when choosing which provider to entrust the care of their loved pet. Please
join us in a show of support for the enactment of legislation, that at the very
least, will require any provider of pet care service to report all unexpected loss
of a pet while in their care. We have just began our research, we know we have
a ways to go to finalize all that is necessary to present this to legislators
and lobby for their support. But we can start now. You can start now. By
signing this petition you enable us to build our case for pet protection
legislation that will ultimately keep all our pets safe while in the care of
others. Thank you for your time.
