Dear Friends of Madrone Trail,
Thank you for choosing Madrone Trail for your school and community. It is nice to have the opportunity to share with you a picture of prosperity and growth at our school, which is projected to expand every year until Madrone Trail encompasses K-8th.
Madrone Trail is a charter school, sponsored by the Medford School District and by that:
• We are a school of choice for any family in the Rogue Valley without any required inter-district transfer
• We do NOT charge tuition
• We only receive 80% of the State School Fund and would have to fundraise every year to meet our budget. The Medford School District keeps 20% of our money.
• We are not provided a facility like any other public schools within the Medford School District
In order to meet our steady growth, we have requested to have the use of the West Side school facility that belongs to the Medford School District and currently we are in the negotiation process with the district.
In a nutshell, our proposal includes paying for all utilities, insurance, ground and building maintenance associated with this facility. This will alleviate the Medford School District’s burden of maintaining this asset – A liability that amounts to approximately over $30,000/year. The West Side will become a surplus asset of the school district in January 2010 as the district will have no use of this facility once students from Jackson school move back to their campus. Currently, there is no other prospective renter for this facility; any prospective renter would need to meet the public entity status in order to maintain the city water right at the facility. Due to our under-funded status, the sudden increase in the overhead costs associated with this facility, declining funding by the state and our capacity building stage, we asked to have the rental fee waived on behalf of our students.
Since our proposal to the Medford School District pertains to the utilization of a public asset, your support will be valuable in the approval process of our request by the school district board and/or administration.
Your signature on this form indicates that:
• You support our proposal for the West Side facility as explained above.
• This proposal is a sound utilization of the West Side school facility as it supports the Medford School District’s mission statement.
We thank you for your support.
Fix the budget, stop the waste, and let the teachers and students have a proper place to learn. Its a no brainer.

Taxpayers are already paying for these buildings. Why are we letting them sit empty and cost us money when a public school wants to fill them?

Total waste of space right now. Give it to the charter school it helps everyone in the long run.

The kids deserve a real space and the district is just letting that building rot. It makes zero sense to keep it locked up when we could actually use it.

My niece goes here and they really need the extra room. Please just approve this already.
