Madaket Coastal Erosion

I have been watching and documenting what's happening!!!!

Our house is at 12 Hinckley Lane. We are very concerned about Nantucket becoming pro-active in dealing with sea level rise and erosion in a way that preserves our beaches and landscapes; not giving up our beaches with a concrete or geotube barriers. The bridge is a town asset; there must be put in place a plan to protect it or allow alternative access (possibly including parking and ferry access from Warren's landing) if the bridge becomes unusable.

The most critical issue for Nantucket.

There is just too much at stake to ignore this area of Nantucket. Never mind the tax base loss but to deprive the islanders and visitors to one of the finest beaches on the east coast would be a crime..

Do not allow one of the most beautiful places on earth become inaccessible.

I have family on Nantucket and love visiting the island when I can. The residents and visitors are going to need access to their homes & beaches and is imperative that this address ASAP, Thank you.

Please develop a plan that preserves access, for not only Smith Point homeowners but for visitors from all across our country, to a special and magical part of the Island with its plovers, scallops, quiet family beaches, and brilliant sunsets.

I will have no use of my home at 8 Maine Avenue if there is not a reasonable solution to the problem of access should the worst occur. I have dialysis at Nantucket Cottage Hospital three days a week when I am in residence. Thank you in advance for your efforts to solve this impending problem.

This is an important subject to be taken very seriously by the town officials.

I don't understand why there has been no action before now...re-active vs pro-active. What are the differences with the total cost?

The town owns the land on the right hand side of the road as you approach the bridge i understand the town has some sort of restiction as to its not being used as parking? however we should be able to use this as the roadway if necessary.

We have lived in Madaket for more than 30 years and watched sadly as local beachfront homes have fallen into the ocean. The rate of beach erosion is accelerating and is likely more challenging than the much discussed problems in Siasconset. Decisive leadership is needed now!

As a summer resident of Madaket this is a very alarming threat. I've loved and visited Smith Point for more than 45 years; I'd hate to see it lost as part of our on wonderful island.

Smith's Point is a unique and stunningly beautiful part of Nantucket Island, and as island visitors for more than two decades, our island experience would be diminished without this access. Please do all that you can to maintain Millie's Bridge and our Smith's Point access.

Smith's Point is one of the great treasures of the New England coastline and I respectfully urge the Board to take steps to preserve access for taxpayers and visitors alike.

I am just a part time resident at Tristram's for 4 weeks of the year. But I love Nantucket and want to do everything to preserve it.
