Under Article 6.6 of the Lakehead University Student Union Constitution it states that, "the Lakehead University Student Union Board of Directors shall be empowered to set all financial, political and general policy for the corporation. This must always be done in the best interest of the corporation on all levels including, but not limited to, municipal, provincial, federal and international. Should the LUSU Board of Directors be presented with a petition containing signatures and registration numbers of at least ten percent of the members of the corporation so requesting, it shall call a general meeting of the corporation to consider such Policy, and any decision of the general meeting shall be binding upon the LUSU Board of Directors".
Whereas the Lakehead University Student Union Board of Directors are representatives elected by the students and represent the diverse population of the student body, we the students are requesting that the Board of Directors not receive fifty percent off at The Outpost, and that a much more reasonable discount of ten percent or less off be given to the Directors. When figuring that a meal once a week, per person, at dinner, at The Outposts is approximately twelve dollars, a fifty percent discount would result in a cost to the students of two thousand two hundred and eighty dollars (considering fifteen Board members and five full-time staff, eating once per week over nineteen weeks). A ten percent discount for the same people over nineteen weeks would only cost three hundred and sixty one dollars - a savings of just under two thousand dollars!
Be it resolved that the Lakehead University Student Union Board of Directors adopt the measures brought forward by the students and apply the discount of ten percent or less off at The Outpost on nights of Board meetings effective to full-time LUSU staff, LUSU executive and the Board of Directors members.
If you are signing the petition, please include your student number to prove you are a valid registered student. Thank you.
Seeing this take off like this is honestly surreal because I really thought nobody else was keeping track of these budget choices at The Outpost. It is wild to think about how many of us are actually frustrated by that fifty percent discount and it really makes me wonder what else we have been overlooking this whole time.

The math doesn't lie. That's way too much money just for them to get a deal. Stop wasting our cash.

This is total nonsense. Why do they get a discount for being on the board?? They need to pay for their own lunch.

Ridiculous. My student fees are not for board members to eat for free basically. Fix this.

Are you kidding me? We pay enough in tuition as it is. They should pay full price like the rest of us.
