Why are the students the first to be penalized for lower test scores? First at the Middle School where our boys are routinely diagnosed with ADD because they do not have even have a 15 minute recess to burn off some energy. Now we are taking away much needed down time from our High Schoolers who are involved in "high stakes testing". Neither decision is healthy or effective. Most parents in this school system provide teachers with a quality "product". We are involved, our children are prepared and overall, good students. Perhaps the "blame" should lie elsewhere and more respect be given to us and our children who outperform most districts.

As a former school psychologist, I must side with not only the students but the studies as well. Even if one observation indicates that "the students don't seem stressed or rushed," that perception is not backed by data, nor is it a valid representative sample. Brecksville-Broadview Heights is doing an injustice to their students with a 20-minute lunch period. Period.

I'm a junior and this is the first time we've done this. In no way, shape or form do I think this is fair. The study hall is a waste of time and everyone's just gonna skip (might as well.) 20 minutes to eat seems like bogus to me. We're growing kids and we need to eat, not throw away our food. I don't know about you, but my family can't afford to throw away a good half of our lunch, which basically consists of apples, chips or candy (the good stuff) so yeah, I'll eat in the study hall. And to everyone who says that we should suck it up: no. We're the future generation. If we're gonna run this country one day, might as well start making some changes in the world, might as well just start sticking up for what we believe in.

Social time is just as important as academic time. I have been a teacher for 20 years and have a Ph.D. in education. There is no reason to rush anyone through a much-needed respite to the school day. I hope the administration kindly considers the students' valid requests.

Great job speaking up for what you believe in, students!! I hope the adults with power in this situation listen because you are making an excellent argument. You deserve time to eat and socialize during the day!! If not you may become just more stressed out adults who work through lunch and don't take time to nurture and care for themselves. (The world has enough if those already). Keep raising your voices. As a parent of 3 kids in the district I support you and hope the administration works with you to give you your longer lunch back
