To whom this may concern.
Every year, when I return to school it, it seems to become more and more like a prison. Now not only do we have no lunch room or couches, we also only have 5 minutes in between classes, and a 30 minute lunch. And now we can’t even go outside. Some of the administration does not help with these negative factors. They are consistently impatient and unkind. The more all the restrictions continue, the more I am looking into switching schools.
I have talked to several other students who are looking into the same thing. This school is every unwelcoming. This school needs less restrictions, and more unity.
In order to become a less restricted and more unified school, I believe we need to:
-have monthly activities
-welcoming school environment (couches, lunch room, a more patient a staff)
-more time in between classes and longer lunch so our brains have time to rest
-we should be able to go outside for heavens sakes!!
We are not beaten down high school students who throw away our futures. We are concurrent enrollment students trying to reach our goals. These suggestions are just the start. But each one is important for this school. Thank you for your time.

I have been hearing from so many of you who feel just as drained by these constant restrictions. The administration continues to ignore the toll this environment takes on our mental health while we try to balance our coursework. I am currently gathering the most common complaints to present to the district office because we deserve to be treated like adults.

Seeing so many of you echo these frustrations proves I am not the only one feeling suffocated in these halls. This momentum confirms that our need for a more humane environment is shared by students throughout the entire building.

I understand where you all are coming from. At the same time, I know a lot of the staff and teachers are working so hard for us while trying to comply with the state rules. For example, they were required to remove the couches and keep a better eye on us when we are not in the building. So I agree with those who say that we should take more of a collaborative tone. Some of the staff members have experienced dangerous situations at other schools. Maybe we can find a way to create a better environment for all of us, including the staff. If we take a more cooperative approach it's more likely that the staff will too. I think it's a good idea to show awareness about this and we need to think about how to get people less aggravated about this situation. Think about the consequences.
I wouldn't say Lumen is the worst school I've been comfort to. There are so many things I love and appreciate about it, the teachers, staff and board have dove very well. While I can see how you may have been considering how people want to leave earlier, I really appreciate when I have enough tone to eat:). I also see the thought behind not having students leave during class, but I find that very restricting and controlling and do not like it. The school is my educator, not my parent. I also would like to tell you that I really really appreciate the flags in every room and day the pledge in the morning so thank you so much for that! Just please consider treating us like highschool and college students, not elementary students.

I would like to go about this another way. Maybe all the embassadors, should go to the board and talk to them. so we can bring the concerns to them and get them resolved.

I fully agree, but a couple things I would change. I would change the wording a little. Just so it's not so forceful, but that we can sound cooperative. Also I would elaborate on the word prison. The reason I say that is, prison is a good word but I say elaborate. I feel like I'm being patrolled every class period. If you have any questions about what I said, just ask me.

I totally agree and think we need a longer lunch time and more friendly staff just the other day it started hailing so all of us walked to the front door to see if it was! None of us were going outside just standing in the front desk area looking outside at the hail. Although our teacher was okay with it as soon as we left out class room we got yelled at multiple times for being curious about the world around us. Someone did end up going outside and the front desk lady did t Yell at them which I think was appropriate because he wasn't supposed to go out there but I think the fact that we were just trying to go see what was going on and got yelled at for five for six times is unfair.
