The purpose of this petition is to stop the cries of the Lumbee Nation. I am writing as your constituent in the 5th Congressional district of North Carolina. I support HR 27 - Lumbee Recognition Act. Lumbee's are a nation of resilient Native Americans with strong kinship, family ties, religious upbringing and a strength that should speak volumes about them as a first people. The tribe has sought full federal recognition from the United States Government since 1888. In 1956, Congress passed the Lumbee Act, which recognized the tribe as Indian. However, the Act withheld the full benefits of federal recognition from the tribe. Efforts are currently underway to pass federal legislation that grants full recognition to the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. The Act has made it to Congress many times but never to the Senate. So I am begging for this act to make to the Senate and become law.
It's time for change, it's time for the Lumbee's to be recognized. It's time for all children and future generations to learn about Lumbee's in history books. Please help this dream come true.

The momentum building behind this effort feels like a long awaited shift for our people. Seeing so many of you stand with the Lumbee Nation gives me hope that our history is finally being acknowledged in the halls where decisions happen.

My grandmother was Lumbee and she stayed proud her whole life. Wish she was here to see this finally moving forward.

NC needs to step up and do the right thing for our neighbors. Full recognition is long overdue.

Its been way to long. Give the Lumbee the recognition they deserve already. My family has lived here for generations and we support this 100 percent.

This should have been settled years ago. Why is it so complicated to give them what they have earned? fix this.
