WHY SHOULD THE VOTING AGE BE LOWERED?

Just a small introduction; Hello, I'm a student from the UK and I wanted to challenge a part of society that I didn't believe was right. I wanted to challenge the voting age because I believe that the government is not applying their selves to young people and what they think about society. Young people don't have a voice when it comes to politics and therefore they cannot do much to change society to make it a better place.

In the United Kingdom, those who are under the age of 18 are not eligible to vote. I believe, along with many other young adults that the voting age should be decreased to include those who are 16 years of age. Secondary schools are providing students with a sufficient amount of citizenship education, so the government cannot say that we are too young to think about who is best suited to run our country. Also, 16 year olds can legally have sex at that age, but are they still irresponsible enough to vote? 16 year olds can make responsible decisions and they should have a say on who gets to look after their own country. With only those who are aged 18 and above being able to vote, younger adults do not have a voice and they cannot express their political opinions and most importantly, votes in elections won't be representative of every person, which is what democracy is really about. Overall, 16 year olds should have a vote so they can express their political opinions!

THIS IS WHY WE WANT THE VOTING AGE TO DECREASE TO 16 YEARS OLD!

SIGN THE PETITION AND LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD!

Thank You!

16 and 17 year olds have jobs and pay taxes, we deserve a say in how the country is run. Way too many old people are making decisions that wreck our future.
