The UK’s leading fuel card reseller, The Fuelcard Company, has launched a national petition among commercial vehicle drivers calling for ministers to lower fuel tax and support the transport industry.
The campaign entitled ‘Don’t Fleece Our Fleet’ will be taken across the UK in a nation-wide tour of the country’s biggest truck-stops to raise awareness and generate support for the fleet industry which has seen its operating costs rocket following several fuel tax hikes.
With Government duty totalling 75% of the current cost of fuel and a further 1.75p tax hike scheduled before January 2011, it's more important than ever to help companies who run any vehicles. This comes in addition to an increase in VAT from 17 to 20 percent, which is expected to have a devastating effect on the fleet industry with many businesses struggling to stay afloat.
The petition will call on the Government to lower fuel tax, or freeze it at its current level, before the UK fleet industry suffers irreparable damage.

Prices at the pump are absolutely killing small haulage firms. My husband is barely breaking even right now.
Sort it out. The industry is on its knees and they just keep piling it on.
Ridiculous prices lately. cant keep running the van at this rate and keep the lights on at home.
75% tax? That is just daylight robbery. The government needs to give us a break.
Everything is going up but the pay stays the same. Stop fleecing us!
