If born at 22 weeks into pregnancy, it is possible for the baby to survive. Therefore we feel that it is ethically and medically wrong to kill a baby after this time when they could survive outside the womb. A babies heart starts beating at only 5 weeks into pregnancy. By 22 weeks into pregnancy a baby already has distinct lips and developed eyes with eyebrows and eyelids in place. Also the first signs of teeth are even showing. The baby can hear and recognise sounds from outside the womb. The babies crucial organs are all formed and the baby has unique fingerprints. Currently, the legal limit for an abortion is 24 weeks into pregnancy which is 2 weeks after the baby could survive. Is this murder? This petition is to lower the legal limit for abortion in the UK to 22 weeks.
