this sort of question is entirely redundant and in appropriate at GCSE level. The board have impaired their integrity.

The reason the grade boundaries should be lowered is that regardless of how hard the questions were, they hadn't been taught in school. This means that often students couldn't recognise a method to find the answer, meaning that paper disadvantaged students who were yet to embark on A-level standard maths!

My son informed me on the sweets question and I was appalled at the complexity of a GCSE maths question, how our kids meant to pass when they are befuddled with questions like this?

I personally think that the number of times I've asked people in my maths GCSE retake class if this is not the first time their doing it and the answer is yes is staggering! In most cases, it's due to the fact that exam papers overestimate our knowledge. The worst thing is their complaining to us about the amount of people doing resists. If they want to lower the number then lower the grade boundaries :)

Every year it's outrageous. This year there was a question that was impossible with the information given to us and its getting silly. Smart students are getting poor grades because of the shocking questions and grammar used. Lower the grade boundaries and make it fairer for year 11s and stop conning them out of the grade they deserve!
