I understand wanting to test knowledge, not memory but confusing students with Additional Science knowledge, wording some of them ridiculously isn't the right way to go about it.

more of a maths exam than a biology one, where were questions on adaptations, evolution, carbon cycle etc

This is the most unbalanced paper so far. The 2014 was quite satisfactory, but this one was a complete catastrophe.
Over half of it included mathematics that could be asked in a maths exam, the other included interpreting graphs and statistics with bizarre question wording and total confusion. Also, the topics in the exams were so narrow to only the first half of the specification and barely touched upon the remaining sections of the specification. There were also questions that where simply not mentioned in the syllabus and required knowledge of B2 (unit 2), which is a complete disaster for Year 10's doing core science only. The only real biology question was the 6 marker one about plants and it seemed to be the easiest. The remaining few 1 mark questions, such as 'what is a gene' or 'how can doctors prevent bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics' can be guessed by KS2 students.
This exam was inevitably the most unbalanced. Grade boundaries, which change by 2 or 3 marks maximum will not have any effect as the tragic paper already did.

I particularly thought the B1 paper asking about parts of liver was rather unfair :|

the exam had hardly any biology in it; it was mostly maths. The content that came up was not even in the specification. How do you expect us to do well without giving us a solid base to start with?
Also, I'm sure the liver cell question was B2.
