The concerns expressed by this petition are valid and legitimate. Budgeting another increase in our local taxes is unconscionable.

Dear Ms. Friedman, I hope that your loved ones and you are doing well. Under no circumstances are we attacking firefighters. Scarsdale firefighters are dedicated, professional, and talented, and we are lucky to have them. We did not write that funding should be removed. We ask that the Village explain why overtime is needed? And how much is needed? In our working paper, budget analysis and letter to the Board we have asked repeatedly that every appropriation that has not been quantified and documented be justified to Scarsdale residents. Despite the fact that we have presented numerous recommendations to the Scarsdale Citizens Non-Partisan Party administration, neither the mayor nor trustees have responded to a single one. It is essential that in a democracy, we should be able to openly discuss with politicians what their objectives are and what support they have for those objectives from a diversity of taxpayers in a municipality. This administration has not responded to any of our questions. In these very trying times, when so many Scarsdale residents have lost their jobs and have lost their incomes, the sacrifice needs to be shared among residents and Village staff. If the SCNP administration would at the very least get rid of unjustified expenses like the the additional $200,00 for Freightway, expenses for a Village attorney we no longer have, and other unexplainable appropriations, that would provide some respite for our residents. Please feel free to write me at [email protected] with any additional comments or questions. Best regards, Mayra Kirkendall-Rodriguez Voters Choice Party Campaign Chair

Taxes are too high and the idea that they be raised further at this particular time is indicative that representatives who support the increase are out of touch with residents like me.

If anything, taxes should be REDUCED due to the COVID-19 crisis, as US government's tax relief. If Scarsdale township can cut the many unnecessary expenses, our taxes can be reduced for sure.

Scarsdale property tax is ridiculously high. And it would only get higher every year. Was the tax money managed efficiently? Who would be responsible for a better management?

We ask that you look at ways to reduce expenses in our community as every business is doing these days. At this moment, it is the only fiscally responsible thing to do for leaders.
We have seen many our neighbors laid off or had their salaries reduced, so please look at each expense line and determine where there is opportunity to reduce the town expenses and our communities taxes. Thank you!

The elimination of the SALT deduction depressed homeowners’ wealth and cut homeowners’ after-tax income. And now the coronavirus pandemic has reduced residents’ incomes if not eliminated them outright, while posing an uncertain but deeply worrying economic prospect. Raising taxes at this time would be imprudent and harmful. Village residents need a tax break. As recently cited in The Village Inquirer, Scarsdale tax rates generally rose a steep 43% from 2010 to 2019. The items listed on this petition indicate areas where expenditures might be cut to provide a measure of overdue tax relief.
