If managed properly a backyard flock with enough birds to provide a family with eggs and meat can be raised in very little space and not be a nuisance to neighbors.

We have 6 chickens that we keep in a pen. They cause far less problems than the multiple loose dogs running around our neighborhood.

Only if I am supplied with a few good eggs! Just kidding.

I am sure most of us had that one neighbor that had one of those yapping dog that barked all day an most of the night, every night. Soooo, what is the problem, if a neighbor wanted to raise a few hens. Would be a lot less noise than a dog...I know, I have both.

Movement is country wide. Newberrytownship needs to be more progressive and less restrictive. They should allow self sustaining measures such as this on smaller home sites.

Residents in York city keep chickens. Why can't we ? I would like to keep small number of chickens with no rooster. Tired of paying high prices at grocery store.

The noncommercial livestock ordinence groups animals by weight, so ducks, chickens, rabbits etc would all be treated the same as they are all in group 1, under 10 lbs.

Instead of going after people trying to raise food for their children, why don't you look more into the neighbors making the complaint.

Thanks for your support Michael! What's nice is that most everything you said is already addressed in the current ordinence, since chickens are allowed as long as you have enough land. We're just asking them to consider lowering the minimum land requirement so more of our community can take advantage of it.
