The research is out there for all to see. It is time to put into effect what the Academy of Pediatric's is recommending.

It is clear from research that for optimal mental health, teenagers need to sleep around 9 hours a night. In addition, their circadian rhythms are such that they aren't tired until around 11:00. The early start time ensures that most teens are sleep deprived which will compromise mental health and cognitive functioning. I wholly support a later start time for the benefit of all of our teens.

We should follow the AAP guidelines. The kids need their rest and with the onslaught of social media, they’re up late.

All data shows that a later opening will benefit the children and reduce unnecessary stress due to lack of sleep. It is better for their mental and physical health.

The scientific data is incontrovertible that high school-age students’ health is significantly affected by the hours they sleep. As a leading district LMSD should not only make this change for the benefit of its own students but set an example. My children had to get up to go to LMHS at a terrible hour so I am personally familiar with the stress it put on their bodies and their lives.

Please do the right thing. My kids are exhausted, they should not have to wake up when it’s dark out. It’s awful for their mental & physical health!

As a parent of young children, future LMSD students, and a child psychologist, I know this is the right decision for the health and well-being of all students in our community. The evidence is clear.
