Not only was it difficult, but the way the questions were worded and the extra time required needed to read the questions and try and make an applied answer meant that it was extremely difficult to finish satisfactorily within the time constraints.

I felt so prepared going into this exam after completing tons of past papers but nothing could have prepared me for this! There were far too many application questions that didn't make sense and the style of the exam was completely different to previous years! It's not fair after months of work to come out of an exam feeling so bad!

That exam was nothing that any student had prepared for and it was completely unfair, the whole paper was atrocious

I also agree it was way too hard and nothing that we expected was in there

The Chem4 exam I sat yesterday was quite frankly no reflection on the several past papers I had completed (twice) in preperation for the exam, along with months of solid revision. I looked forward to starting my medicine degree in September and I think many people will relate to me when I say that I am genuinely worried that this will not be a reality anymore after that exam- which I can confidently say was nothing like any of the A level chemistry exams I have seen before. I understand that the spec has changed for current Year 12's but this should have NO effect on the format of Year 13 chemistry examinations. This has not been the case for my other subjects at AQA!! I am left wondering who was responsible for writing and checking this exam, because it is clearly so different from past examinations, in terms of its structure, increased use of application of chemistry and all in all horrifically more difficult questions!! I can only hope that the grade boundaries will be significantly lower for this paper and that the Chem5 paper does not receive the same response. Good luck to everyone in getting into their chosen university.

I have spent four years of my live striving for a career in Dentistry. Put all my efforts and passion into science. Went above and beyond what was expected of me, worked in dental Clinics, did voluntary work, engaged in extra curricular activities, even managed to get an offer for dentistry from King College London... All for nothing. The paper was ridculous and I am not saying the questions were impossible to answer but what I am saying is if you compare the paper with ANY paper ever made by AQA for Chem 4 you will see theres a clear difference in the level of difficulty and its just cruel and unfair to put student like us through that. Especially considering new specifications have been put in place which means we would have to repeat two whole years rather than A2.

It's totally unacceptable to change exam formats without any prior notification! Students futures are riding on this

What an absolutely rediculous paper. I knew the specification start to finish and that just wasted 2 years of my life.
