How can Dublin be the only European capital with no proper, big, city sized, flea market? Bring back the flea.

Markets are a Crucial platform for Small Independent Businesses, they generate creativity, an opportunitie for people to connect, and most importantly a chance for the consumer to shop more ethically. Dublin needs to keep hold of it's buzz and energy and markets are vital for this. Ireland has a wealth of designers, crafters and independent businesses that need the space to trade and connect with the public. Love Your Markets!!

A city will not run on mass-produced highstreet stpres and coffee chains. Our culture won't continue to exist with them. We need small, local producers and independent businesses. Losing our markets will be losing our cultural and business integrity.

Markets are the heart of craft in a city as well as the countryside. It's a gathering for the local community. This is far more than small local businesses we're talking about. This is culture. This is Ireland. This is our identity. We need to rediscover and embrace our identity... not throw it away!

Markets bring vibrancy, interest and community to areas that homogenous chain shops don't. They serve as a platform for sole traders, small businesses and creative people. They were allowed to thrive during the recession - why are we not offering a stable long-term option for successful markets and helping small businesses.

I was at the first Flea and there pretty much every month I could after that. So many happy memories sitting in the sun and soaking up the vibe; so many chance encounters with people I’d fallen out of touch with. Always left with a spring in my step and a sense that all was OK in the world. The Flea, for me, became a vibrant, tangible expression of sustainable contemporary Dublin community and the sooner it returns, the better for us all.
