Bryce, if you weren't part of Providence, they couldn't ban you from attending the ceremony, but could ban you as a participant. The handbook clearly states their position on class 5 offenses and the accompanying consequences. Do I agree with the policy? No. But as a student you were aware of the possibilities and chose to go public anyway. Why not wait until after the ceremony? Were you hoping for just this outcome to take your views to a wider audience? That makes sense - but being surprised by the school's response doesn't. When you enroll in any private school, you join it, it doesn't join you. Their rules, their policies, their consequences. I'm surprised you didn't go to the event, however, since it was after graduation.

This is what drives people away from religious institutions. They need to also ban all the former students who have premarital sex and who wear clothes made of mixed fabrics. I guess we are all going to hell. Ridiculous! Jesus would be the last one to judge!

Jesus never said one word against homosexuality.

Please set a better example to your students and school family of acceptance of diversity, and more importantly, of Christian love.

Please try and set a better example for students in the future. All students should be treated fairly and equally. Shame on you!

The following is an analysis of Providence's press release on June 9th. "...criticizes it for acting consistently within its Statement of Faith" The Providence School Statement of Faith includes the following on homosexuality: "We hold the state of marriage to be an expression of a Biblical standard and the union between a man and a woman. Violations of this sacred trust include areas such as fornication, adultery, homosexuality, and co-habitation prior to marriage." The media reports do not criticize Providence for simply holding the belief that marriage is between a man and a woman. Providence's decision to contact an alumni, President and graduate of the Class of 2015, and inform him that it would be "unwise" to attend an alumni event based on his sexuality is what is being criticized. There is no Biblical justification for tracking down an alumni on Twitter and banning him from alumni events for his sexuality. Christ would be ashamed at the school's decision and spirit of rejection. "In fact all Providence Graduates cease to attend school after graduation." This statement is a red herring and has nothing to do with Bryce's situation. Bryce was not seeking to "attend school." Students frequently return to Providence to visit with teachers and attend alumni events. Bryce is effectively banned from these events due to his sexuality. "In fact no graduate has been banned from the school or events." The school is lying, and the evidence is clear. Providence cannot dismiss countless internet posts and the testimony of Bryce's classmates. "In fact Providence School will continue to stand on its Mission Statement and Statement of Faith." I wasn't aware these documents included discrimination based on sexuality. It is shameful that Providence would say they are releasing "accurate information." This press release is full of lies and weak attempts at dismissing Bryce's serious claim. What I find the most pathetic is that the first paragr

If there is a smattering of truth to these allegations, Providence School would be unworthy of educating out youth--and antithetical to Christian-Judeo teachings.

I'm disappointed in the school's response to these allegations. I hope they are not true. Transparency and honesty is the best route. I have three kids there and have been disappointed with the administrarion for years. Providence was once a great school. We will be looking for new school. I also agree with previous statements about the press release, full of errors and not a press release by any definition.

Today Providence sent out a press release riddled with punctuation errors vehemently denying Bryce's story. With all their talk of "standing up for your beliefs," one would think denial wouldn't be their first response. The school has also deleted its Facebook page due to a strong social media backlash from numerous alumni. This school deserves every ounce of negative press it receives. "Boldly Christian & Unquestionably Academic", what a farce.

As a former atendee of the Providence School of Jacksonville Florida, I can attest to the hate that the curriculum of the school teaches. It teaches its students to hate people of other religions and sexual orientations. One of my bible class teachers, who I will not name, once told me that she was about to discontinue her friendship with someone because he was Islamic and would not convert to christianity for her. She told the whole class that is oir friends would not convert for us then they were not our friends at all. The curriculum is close-minded and biggoted. I was relieved to leave that school and discover that what they had taught me was untrue. I know Bryce, he is a good and kind person. It is ridiculous that he should be treated any differently as a result of his sexual orientation. I gladly sign this petition to stand up against this tyranny.

Providence needs to wake up.

Having grown up in a Christian household that believed gays were going straight to Hell, I find this sort of action disgusting. Some of my closest friends are gay. I stand behind you 100% on your decision and actions. Bless you <3
