I considered myself an extremely advanced math student throughout my highschool and college years. Now I have watched my children's grades suffer as a result of the Common Core math program and I feel helpless because I cannot even understand the concept of 5th grade math. It should not be this difficult!

America needs critical thinkers. Common Core destroys that. If this continues, where will we get our future scientists, researchers, inventors, all of whom succeed by thinking "outside the box"?

When will this government take over end? We know what's best for our children and this does not come close. Enough is enough!

Fortunately, I don't have any school age children; but after reading what these "COMMON CORE" will be teaching the American children, I decided to try and help stop this as I call it, GARBAGE to be taught to American children!

How are parents supposed to help their children with homework? Many parents across the nation have posted ridiculous questions being asked of even kindergarteners that make absolutely no sense whatsoever!

Yes, CC may set "Standards" but not the kind of educational standards that are good for raising intelligence.

Common core has to go. I have 2 kids and we are up till almost 10 pm every night Monday through thursday doing homework. There is never enough time for them to study because i have to explain over and over to them until they understand. Very few kids usually drop out of school but with this new common core that number will increase

As a mother of a six year old first grade student, I am absolutely against the Common Core Standards. My six year old is currently enrolled in a private school and has been making straight A's all school year. Recently at Parent-Teacher Conference I was advised that I should expect his grades to drop because the fundamentals they are teaching in the Common Core Subjects are getting harder for the students to learn. On the same note I was told that the students need to pay more attention in class because their parents don't understand what they are being taught. This is extremely true! I battle homework every night for at least an hour (when we are told that homework should take no more than 20 minutes a night) because as a parent, I have to re-educate myself with "Common Core Standards" just so I can assist my son with homework. As parents we are being told this is a "new way" of teaching children in order to prepare them for College. Hello, these children are in 1st grade, they are not even thinking about college nor do half of them know what college is. Learning is supposed to be fun especially at such a young age when these children are just now learning. Having to educate themselves this way is not fun and it's not helpful by any means. In fact, this method is putting more stress on these young children than necessary. If elementary, middle and high school is this hard on the students, why on Earth would they even consider going to college? To those who signed the bill to mandate the Common Core Standards in Louisiana you should be ashamed of yourselves for putting these children through hell in order to learn this material the way it is being taught. Shame on all of you! I have no respect for any of you!

Common Core is the symptom of an insidious disease that has plagued this nation for over a century. This freedom-eating disease is ironically labeled "progressivism". If we eliminate the Common Core symptom, the disease will develop another one. We need to get rid of this disease, and thereby restore our Republic, by re-establishing the traditional American education that began to be sabotaged about a century ago. If we do that, then the Declaration, the Constitution, God, the rule of law, freedom and true academic rigor, etc. will once again be ours just as they were when they propelled this nation to be the freest, strongest and most prosperous in history. If you want to know more, read the "deliberate dumbing down of America" by Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt. The 1999 edition is very detailed and available as a free e-book download. The 2011 edition is not downloadable but is much shorter and has a Common Core update chapter. Read these two books and you will know all you need to know about the purposeful demise of this nation's education system and, in turn, the demise of our Republic. It's reversible if we act now. It is hard to believe that Gov. Jindal goes along with this dumbing down of our educational system. As far as the BESE Board is concerned, they must not have been doing their job for years if our standards were so bad!! Our standards were higher in the 1950s and we could work math problems in our heads and most of us had more common sense. Am tired of more and more government control. Stop trying to create a work force with our children. Let them be FREE to determine what they want to do in life!

Common Core goes far beyond standardizing across the country. It goes to the heart of our beliefs and it needs to refused by all citizens--not just those who have children in our schools.
