Losing a baby to SIDS must be one of the most heartbreaking things to happen to a person. Unless wrongdoing is proven parents should be left in peace to grieve. Truly shocking that these reports are allowed to happen, and that people make unasserted assumptions on the basis of such reports.

Holly, read about this in the news today. Utterly appalling what you had to endure. Unbearable! Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any information that would identify the child or family should not be reported by the media unless authorised by the courts. The speculation stories in the media on how the death occurred are not in the public interest. The media intrusion at such a time needs to be controlled and not by self regulation applied by editors. Not all SIDS are the direct result of abuse, there are occasions when products used and poor printed guidelines are the cause. Having attended several and seen the heartache first hand I hope this becomes law.

No family should go through what they have. Families should be able to mourn their losses without being accused of causing the death of their child until it has been proven.

I am a cot death mum of a little six month daughter Meliza I did not suffer what Louie’s mum did thank God. It was hard enough dealing with our loss without that disgusting situation of outsiders so my heart goes out to Louie’s mum. Mine was 45 years ago but when I had my next baby she was put on the At Risk Register which I found heartbreaking enough. But to be accused of hurting your Cot Death baby is unforgivable because the Coroner would have released a Death Certificate with cause of death Cot Death and associated causes pertaining to this sudden death. The law should change and non disclosure of the event should be upheld until the proper authorities have dealt with the formalities. Understanding and compassion should be extended by all agencies involved. A baby has been taken suddenly- gone in a blink of an eye that’s hell on earth without the trail of nasty people supposing this and that. Mum and family have to be protected throughout the law must change!

I lost a son in 2015. Thankfully the press didn't do this to me but it should never be allowed to happen.

Louie's family are right to petition to bring a change in the law. Yes we live in a free society but everyone has the right to privacy. The press should be barred from reporting any child's death until the police have the results of the post mortem and have gathered enough evidence for a case to answer. Only then might it be in the public interest to know about it but that has to be weighed against the right for other children in the family to remain anonymous. It is also dangerous to assume that SIDS is caused by child abuse - cases like this should be handled by an open-minded team. All that needs to be reported, if anything, is that the police are investigating. The press have too much freedom and bad reporting of suspected crimes feeds local witchhunts. I hope that this becomes law.

People should get the facts first befour the make up there mind you do not know what goes on in peoples homes for you to know what happened . And each case is different .do not take notice of every thing you read in the midia and see on tv . Its not all the time is the correct

I feel compelled to respond, having read the BBC news article about Holly's experience - no grieving mother should be treated this way by the media. It is shocking and saddening that the media think they have 'the right' to put these stories out, and to defend their actions by saying that the public want to hear it too.
