This is so wrong! I am disabled and was drawing SSI before I got married and the SSI stopped immediately and I have applied for jobs and still have not had a job. Nobody wants to hire a 50 year old with no work experience. What am I supposed to put on a resume?

It’s ridiculous that a law like this exists and it must be done away with as soon as possible because it’s the right thing to do and it’s long overdue.

As someone who is in the same situation as this woman. It's absolutely frustrating and ridiculous!

I’m in the same position. My boyfriend and I don’t want to rush marriage but I would like it to be possible when we are ready. And right now, it’s not.

No person on disability should lose their benefits because they get married

The current laws are highly discriminatory

Thank you Mark and Lori for bringing this issue to light. When my husband and I got married 15 years ago, he lost all benefits. He is quadriplegic but because of the current policies, he doesn't qualify to receive disability benefits.

Anybody with a disability wants the same thing that everybody else does in life an opportunity.

As a disabled man on SSDI, I don't think the government has any right to tell me who I cam and can't marry.

Individuals with disabilities have the right to get married just like anyone and they don't need to sacrifice their disability benefits to do so. They don't need to choose between one or the other

This is one of the most unconscionable laws I’ve ever seen! This is absolutely akin to the laws that prohibited interracial marriages and it needs to be abolished. Immediately!

It is absolutely appalling that the government gives people with disabilities another obstacle to overcome just to have the same love and lifestyle that every other american or non american has the opportunity to have in life.. I was absolutely disgusted and shocked to read this knowing that if I ever want to have the american dream of a conventional marriage and family that I will lose the income I need to survive! This needs attention immediately as it is completely obvious to any reader disabled or not how horribly unfair this is! What an injustice this is to the disabled community! I'm now sick to my stomach knowing now that I may never be able to get married! Wow! This is absolutely heart breaking!
