As an engaged, disabled, 33-year-old woman, on SSDI this is nauseating and freaking WRONG!!!! But after dealing with SSDI and Medicare this last year, I was introduced to what a total sh** show they are and how much updating they NEED to do!! I sure hope this gets the signatures needed! This is immoral and based on the concept of ignorance. It is not moral to cut off help for a disabled adult simply because one is in love, additionally as disabled people struggle with love and being loved more than most in the population. We can't rely on outdated gender norms to expect a spouse to financially cover for the disabled spouse, that is not in consideration of the spouse and it is not 1950 anymore.

My husband and I faced this situation because he was disabled and I filed for disability due to injuries/illnesses. He died in an accident two days before I was to receive SSI. The law as it stands is outrageous and discriminatory. "Marry within your same class" is exactly what they're saying to us. Good luck and hope you (we) win.

Both myself and spouse are disabled. I was getting SSDI when I got married. Now that my wife is disabled and approved for SSDI, she is being penalized because of my benefits. It is wrong to do people this way when we as disabled persons need our money just like anyone else to survive.

Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere. Disabled rights are human rights. If we can afford money for endless military spending, bipartisan corruption, outrageous healthcare costs, and bailouts/tax cuts for the ultra wealthy, i think we have some wiggle room for ending this barbarism.
