I have a disability and receive no benefits from USgov. My daughter does and needs so much care. It feels very discriminatory how if you marry someone who doesn’t have a disability you lose that important resource.

As a special education teacher, I can’t imagine any of my students being limited in choosing who they can marry based on ability or losing their income.

Lori most definitely should be able to retain her benefits! It should be against the law to take her benefits away if she should marry!

Someone shouldn't lose their benefits because of who they marry.

It is the same whether you are on SSDI on your parents record or SSI. You can't get married without losing your benefits. It has been that way for years! Your the first to openly fight it. I hope you win - Not just for yourself, but for ALL of us!!!!!!!!

I am glad I am signing this as this law directly effects me and I didn’t even know it existed. Thank you so much for sharing

I'm on SSI and did marry my husband 3 years ago. They told us my benefits wouldn't change, as my husband didn't make enough to change it. He's making the same now as he was then. But in February of this year, the SSA abruptly slashed my benefits, saying my husband now makes too much. They also said I owe them money, which they are now taking every month on top of the reduced benefits. The system is broken.

my son is classified as special needs due to his autism. I'm so sorry you and anyone else in your situation has to fight like this for love.

Marriage equality. Just 5 years ago the lgbt couldn’t marry and now this?! It’s insane

I have a down syndrome son . He deserves to live his life according to what he is able to . And I believe he is able to to do anything.
