Hi Lori (great name by the way) :) So sorry you are facing these inappropriate marriage barriers. We are doing all that we can to correct this. Please reach out to DREDF in California. Lori

I am a DAC,who receives survivors benifits from my deceased father's record. I was born with a Genetic collagen disease, that is degenerative and has no cure. I am 54 and would like to exercise my rights, as an American ,the freedom of marriage, without penalty! As current laws, would cause me to loose my supporting income/medical if I were to marry, as I desperately desire

Taking away someone's financial and health security simply because they marry an abled bodied adult is rather twistednon the part of the US Government. Time to change the law.

Penalizing a disabled person for marrying is not equal rights! This is discrimination against disabled Americans!

People with disabilities shouldn’t be penalized for getting married.

This law is against civil liberties and needs to change. People with disabilities should be able to continue to receive full benefits after marrying.

Dear Lori, I'm a pain patient in California. Thank you for helping us with your work with the CMB. Only your post is what told me that had happened. God Bless you.

In the USA, no one should be forced to remain unwed due to any disability.

This is happening to me now. I'm homeless but married because my husband doesn't make enough for us to afford rent and utilities.

Whatever the reason, this portion of the SSI law was written poorly. I hope it wasn't intentional, but the way we view folks with disabilities has/is/will changed/changing/change. Help us get this rectified NOW.
