This petition is concerning the respondus lockdown browser. This new system is making numerous students extremely uncomfortable to allow anyone to access their cameras while they’re doing an exam. We don’t mind using the browser; however, turning on our cameras should at least be an option as many of us believe that it is an invasion of our privacy.

I noticed the counter creeping up toward that 250 mark which feels honestly kind of wild considering how quiet everyone was about this at the start. If you know anyone else who keeps staring at their computer screen feeling like they are being watched while taking a test just send this link over to them real quick before we hit that threshold.

I have been reading through all the stories you are leaving in the comments and it honestly makes my head spin how many of us feel watched and judged during these tests. I am currently putting together a list of these experiences because someone needs to explain why our privacy feels like such an afterthought when they set up these requirements.

I just checked the page and saw we hit a hundred signatures which is honestly way faster than I thought this whole thing would go. It feels kind of validating to see that other people are just as weirded out by the camera requirement as I am because sometimes I worry I am just being paranoid but clearly I am not.

It’s making it more complicated for us as a lot of students like me can’t have access due poor internet quality
It’s really unethical for other people to access our cameras while being home with family around not only that but recording as well it isn’t right at all
Having a camera on and being asked to show my desk is an invasion of privacy and puts me under pressure that would result in me feeling stressed. Also, having the camera on during an examination makes things harder than they already are, and could lead to my grades decreasing because of this.
opening the camera isn’t like sitting in class. In class we are physically in that place which is for the exam, however in the house we have families that we should respect their privacy and having the camera on will increase our stress level.
My pc doesn’t have a camera and I believe there is many other ways for examinations that can be implemented instead of having to buy a laptop that will only be used for the few courses I have left.

I have a condition called Scopophobia. Which basically means, fear of cameras. It is extremely uncomfortable.
