I hold 5 virtual meetings per day when students are at home. It is very difficult for me to teach online while wearing a mask. Especially with young learners who can’t see my mouth when teaching letter/sound correlation and my voice being muffled by a mask.

I have contacted HR, Zendesk, SEC Principal and assistant principal. I haven't received any communication, except HR saying that there is a high volume of requests so it will be awhile.

I would personally like to see something done about itinerant scheduling, too. My students are there everyday, but I don't have scheduled in-person time all day everyday. The current situation is that we have to run distance learning sessions in-office, which means that there could be multiple people trying to teach kids at once in the same space. Between the potential background noise and the fact that we're running speech and language sessions with masks on, it will be hard, if not impossible to make DL an effective option for students opting to learn from home. We can't just keep Fridays as DL days because many of our kids need shorter, more frequent sessions to benefit from our services.
Additionally, we were told that we would be covering for each other and potentially others in the building in case of absences. Rapport building is essential to working with many of our students, especially on speech and language goals. Sometimes it takes a few sessions to get students to the point of being comfortable with us, yet they are expecting us to provide sub coverage to classrooms who don't even know who we are in some circumstances instead of allowing folks who are quarantined to provide from a distance, which would honestly be more effective. This is DIRECTLY CONTRADICTORY to what we were originally told, which was that there would be flexibility. They are making arbitrary decisions with no understanding of how it will impact us and our students. They are not asking us for our insights or opinions, despite the fact that we're the ones who know our professions and students best. That is ivory tower leadership at its worst.

My belief is that those staff who are assigned specific students for distance learning do not need to report to the building “ for the sake of it” to keep their employment in good standing. Should be allowed to do so! . It’s equatable when staff and students get what they need..... not a fixed stance on this but allowing for flexibility and accountability in a way other than being in the building. I think we truly need to have the actions match the pledge to do our BEST to accommodate and keep one another safely supported through this! That in turn will reflect on our students that we are a community that cares About each other’s differences. !

Teachers and paras have been entirely left out of decision-making processes and have been effectively silenced at the district level. Our LEADERSHIP needs to be adaptable right now. It's not the time to double down.
