RFD-4-LIVESTOCK DEVELOPMENT

Livestock rearing is one of the major component of agricultural activities performed by more than two thirds of the world rural populace due to its benefits as pathways out of poverty. households may sell their livestock and use the proceeds to build or extend their dwelling or acquire capital equipment for farming process.

The issue of livestock rustling has been a major pain in Nigeria for years and this results in the loss of lives, livestock and economy value. The system works like other animals tracking solutions radio frequency identification|(RFID) chips are injected into livestock, and these are coded with the owner’s detail.

If there’s a dispute ,a RFID scanner can easily reveal who a lost or stolen animal. With little or no designed graving boundaries, Nigerian farmers and herdsmen often struggles to identity and recover lost livestock, which can result to dispute amongst owners, so with the help of RFID scanner it can easily be reveal who owns a lost or stolen animal in the livestock in Nigeria.

GLOBAL USE OF RFID FOR LIVESTOCK TRANSFORMATION.

Many government across the nation have introduced various livestock management programs. The government also mandates the use of RFID tags for livestock management will fasten the growth of the market during the forecast period.

WHY SIGN THE PETITION CALLING FOR RFID ADOPTION OF IN THE NATIONAL LIVESTOCK TRANSFORMATION PLAN (NLTP)?

Livestock production is a major component of agricultural activities practiced there and is a source of income and a form of security for farmers. increasing attacks by cattle’s rustlers have disrupted the stability that had been injured by nationalist in rural communities within the states. for instance, Kastina state, agriculture is a major component of the rural economy in Kastina state.

The study investigates the prospect of adopting community cattle rustling primary data were sourced via structure questionnaires and dichotomous dependent variable models in the form of profit and logit were used.

There is growing skepticism over the cruelly in the military approach embarked upon by the current administration in combating cattle rustled which seems analogous to the invention used to combat the rise of the book haram insurance in Nigeria. therefore, the time is ripe for the government to generate patriating policies whereby consultation should take center stage in finishing solution to livestock theft.

The lack of traceability and tracking devices is one the reasons for escalating cattle theft in rural communities, so I hereby call for the adoption of RFID and the house of RFID for livestock industry in development in Nigeria with the following points.

FRAUD AND THEFT PREVENTION: Its widely used to prevent fraud, theft, increase efficiency, collect and store importance data. whether the label is placed in an animal or placed on a cow’s ear, it can be read quickly and easily. when an animal is born, electronic identification is the earlobe or body of the animal which is uniformly numbered, and the number is unique.

SPREAD OF DISEASE: RFID usages helps to monitor health of herd, keep individual medications and vaccination records prevent spread of disease by tracking and segregating infected livestock at early stages leading to successful isolation and treatment that saves the rest of the herd and maintain quality of respective animal meat.

IDENTIFICATION, RECORDING AND TRACKING OF ANIMALS: The process of creating animal inventory is easier, animals can be tracked throughout their life cycle. the tags have the ability to store large amount of data about each animal, adding a sensor to the active tag makes it possible to monitor body temperature.

We encourage you to sign this petition for the development of efficient and effective livestock management for food security system in Nigeria.
