Subject: Request to Set "Live Chat" as the Default Option for Live Streams
We, the undersigned members of the YouTube community—comprised of both viewers and content creators—respectfully petition YouTube/Google to reconsider the current default chat setting on live streams.
At present, live streams default to the "Top Chat" view, which filters and restricts real-time engagement. This system often removes relevant messages, delays conversations, and inhibits the very community interaction that makes live streams special. Many viewers are unaware that they are not seeing the full conversation, leading to confusion and a diminished sense of participation.
We are requesting the following change:
* Set **"Live Chat"** as the default chat option for all live streams.
* Allow users to opt into "Top Chat" only if they choose to filter their own experience.
Live streaming thrives on authentic, real-time interaction. By forcing a filtered experience by default, the platform limits connection, stifles community growth, and reduces viewer satisfaction.
We believe this simple change would greatly improve engagement, transparency, and the overall live stream experience for all users.
