Little Miami Stakeholders Against the Proposed Flags and Displays Policy

This is a completely unnecessary restriction on educators.

Love is love! Kids need to know they are loved no matter what!!!

Limiting the creativity that goes into decorating a classroom is limiting to students own creativity. The suggested items list is a form of indoctrination to allowing only those thoughts sanctioned by the government. It is stifling to the arts, to science, and to respecting All People.

Teaching is hard enough, let’s not micromanage teachers with approving classroom decor. They spend hours and hours in their classrooms and thousands of dollars educating other people’s kids. They are professionals with multiple degrees and certifications. Trust them. The way they decorate their classroom should be the least of the board’s concerns.

This is ridiculous!!! As a classroom teacher 35+ years we are supposed to provide an atmosphere in our rooms where “ALL STUDENTS FEEL WELCOME “ and if that includes a few posters / decorations delivering that message then that’s what we should do. Those making these decisions for classrooms need to have to stand before the vast variety of students and justify why they believe those students should not have the same rights as others and end up showing what idiots they are!

Restricting freedom of speech is not ok! Teachers are already oppressed in many other ways, this is just unnecessary.

This is absolutely ridiculous to take away from warm, inviting classrooms. Teachers and students deserve better.

If this was a truly neutral policy, then why are military posters permitted? I teach at a Quaker institution where peace and non-violence are fundamental values. Promoting/glorifying involvement in war is not a neutral stance. I live in the little miami district and am adamantly opposed to this infringement on free speech.

Suppressing free speech at an important developmental point in a child’s life is irresponsible in this country. Replacing positive and cooperative messaging with optional military/patriotic sentiments points our community in a repressive and authoritarian direction. Additionally, only 4 supporting board members out of 10/12 are from this district. External interference is not appreciated for the amount we pay in school taxes in this district.

The school board is overstepping and is not trusting the staff.

Claiming this Flags and Displays policy is about "removing politics from the classroom" is a blatant lie. This is very obviously political, trying to remove any "left-leaning" displays of encouragement or openness that get dog-whistled as being about LGBTQ+ rights, and you're OK if the school rooms look like sterile administrative offices as a result. You've reached the point where anything with three or more colors is deemed a rainbow display and subject to removal, all to support your particular virtue signaling. Let our kids be kids and grow up in a warm, inviting classroom instead of David Wallace's hypocritical vision of a government-approved sterile facility.

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the proposed policy restricting flags and displays in classrooms. As a board-certified psychiatric provider, Army combat veteran, and a mother in this community, I believe this policy will harm students’ mental health and well-being by removing the inclusive and encouraging symbols that make classrooms safe and welcoming spaces. Messages like "Let Your Light Shine" or symbols of diversity foster a sense of belonging, which is critical for mental wellness. Removing these displays isolates marginalized students, increases anxiety and depression, and stifles the creative freedom of teachers who strive to connect with their students. A sterile, impersonal environment is not conducive to learning or emotional growth. Additionally, the policy’s selective enforcement—banning some symbols while allowing others—undermines its claim of neutrality and risks fostering division in our schools. I urge the board to reconsider this harmful policy and instead support measures that create inclusive, respectful, and supportive classrooms for all.

Let's focus on issues that really matter and keep outsiders like Kelly Kohls and Kim Georgeton from having any influence over our district.

As a public educator, I believe in welcoming all students and making them feel safe. Please stop the non-sense.

Schools are not the place for this. It only opens the door for more extreme ideologies.

This overzealous overreach is unnecessary and a waste of resources (time, energy, and money already spent) and would most impact simple, common everyday signs? This type of wasteful overreach offers nothing to the community.

Please stop this nonsense.
