Some things in life are just plain outrageous - and wrong.

You better hope you're never injured in Florida by any state agency - including hospitals, sheriff's offices, state workers, etc.

The Florida Legislature enacted a law that, in essence, says that IF the state is liable . . .

IF the victim wins in court . . .

IF the judgment is over a couple hundred thousand dollars . . .

THEN, the victim can try to find a legislator to sponsor a claims bill for the amount over the limit that doesn't even pay most victim's medical bills, and then . . .

MAYBE the legislators will vote on it some time in the future when they get around to it.

This is the nightmare that Lisa-Maria Carter is in.

By no fault of her own, she went into a hospital to have a simple outpatient surgery and came out with no hands, no feet, and what was left of her intestines outside of her body.

It took 8 years, but she won her lawsuit. The state, of course, appealed.

And even when she eventually wins the appeal, it will be YEARS before the legislature will vote.

In the mean time, she languishes in a nursing home in a 10 x 10 room. She is told when to get up, when to eat, when to take a shower, when to go to sleep.

This repulsive law needs to be repealed. But until then, we can help 1 person get some semblance of justice: Lisa Maria.
