Due to the impact of Covid-19, schools have turned towards online learning. This solution was supposed to be a safe way to continue education.

However, this turned out to have a negative effect on the students as they became overworked. The students' mental health has rapidly deteriorated due to the current circumstances we find ourselves in. The large workload adds to that strain and leaves many on the brink of self-destruction.

We hope to limit the workload on Curro College students to a normal yet functioning flow.

I have been reading through the deeply personal stories you have shared here and the strain you are describing is heartbreaking. Please know that I am working to make sure these experiences reach the right people because this is entirely due to your bravery in speaking up.

May 11, 2020

I am truly overwhelmed by the momentum behind this because I never imagined so many people would relate to this struggle. This belongs to all of you who chose to speak up when things felt too heavy to carry alone.

Just because students are at home it doesn’t mean they have all the time in the world meaning when giving work be realistic the amount of work given to them online should be close to the amount they get at school. Don't forget they have other classes that give homework so it’s not only you giving the learner homework.

At first the workload was fine, but I feel as though our weeks are getting crammed with big loads of work and assignments, it is too hard to keep track of so much work and assignments and it is mentally and physically draining.

Dear Curro Hazeldean Management and principal, We as the students feel as if the work load is a lot, we can not cope for the work is more that usual. If we were going to school the work load would not be as much. Even my parents agree on this. So if Curro Hazeldean has a heart it will decrease the work load and assignments sent to the children. Thank you.

I understand that we have a lot of work and mist of us are far behind, but I don’t think it’s normal for a grade 8 student to work until 9pm or even later

I find it very difficult to write a test in English everyday at 17:00, as there is an abundance of work that needs to be done at the end of the day from other extremely important subjects...

Limit the workload

I Have at least 3 Major assignments on a weekly basis, excluding copious amounts of homework. I find myself waking up 6am to do assignments and then later in the day start with homework that was given in meetings [Which is also 50min of explaining the same topic or waiting for the teacher to arrive. (Not all teachers fall victim to this)] I Hope that the current pandemic can end, but not to return to the school, rather change schools - Along with Curro’s former main sponsers, top 10 students and many others.
