Limit Hanley/Wydown Development

I oppose the proposed development

We DO NOT need more build up, encroachment of high rises around a residential area, and loss of our green spaces, and the asethetics that make Clayto a beautiful and attractive place to live. This is a family neighborhood area with school crossings that are already increasingly dangerous given the increases in build-up and subsequent traffic congestion. The absolute LAST THING we need is more congestion and loss of line of sight. We like it as it is; this is a FAMILY area; not an opportunity for you all to enrich yourselves at the community's expense. It will be a negative and a detraction from what is loved about that corner. It is heavily utilized by the children and local community and the parking lot there is just fine as it is. STOP overbuilding OUR city.

What in the world ever gave you the ridiculous idea that anybody should provide a place for you to store your private property outside?

Build your own parking, Robert. It’s not up to the public to reserve space for your customers to store their private property. You’re right about the stupidity of parking minimums, though. You shouldn’t have to provide any parking if you don’t want to.

I strongly oppose this development and believe it is detrimental to our neighborhood but also to Clayton.

I think the open space should remain as it exists

We need a parking lot much more than we need another hideous condo.We want business and then give the people no where to park.

There is not enough parking for the existing businesses. Adding more businesses, and a few extra spots? Not logical!

Development of this lot is totally unnecessary and would ruin the charm of the Wydown Business District. Clayton in general is losing much of it’s charm with some of the recent developments

This would be the worst thing that could happen to the area ,in 30 years I have spent thousands on parking spaces & in tickets & the time restrictions are such that a customer does not even have time to park and have a quick lunch without getting ticketed ? I currently rent three spaces on that parking lot for my employees to park,Where would you suggest employees park, when I went into business I had to have proof that I had parking spaces for my employees ?? Let's keep Clayton on a human scale with a high quality of life.

We do not need to develop every inch of Clayton. Clayton is taking away every parking lot and sell it to developers. What a ugly and cheap looking building. Does Clayton have a urban planner in house?

This petition is insane. As if Clayton should cowtow to stodgy NIMBYs who wouldn't be happy with anything built anywhere. The naysayers are so predictable. The ones who always show up to oppose any new development that threatens their little bubble of existence, as if a public site is reserved for only them. It's absurd. Hanley is lined with big buildings and is already a heavily trafficked thruway. There is nothing offensive or inappropriate about this project and any city with a clue would prefer new development over a slab of asphalt. 4 stories gets everyone worked up? For real? Spare me. The irrational complaining and fear mongering in this petition makes me want to support this project even more. I would live in that building, looks great.

I support this development. The design provides much-needed density and replaces a surface parking lot, which is unattractive, lowers property values, and produces no tax revenue or economic activity. The building is pedestrian-oriented and complements the urban form of neighboring buildings. This lot is a 1/2 mile, 10-minute walk from the Clayton MetroLink station and is located on a major arterial road with a bus route. It should absolutely be redeveloped into a higher, better use that will generate new economic activity and tax revenue for Clayton residents. Petitioners here provide *no evidence whatsoever* of "dramatic" increases in traffic congestion or risks to local businesses. Construction occurs all across the region with no reports of closures of existing businesses. Surface parking lots are not valuable "green space" and are a nuisance. 4 stories is an extremely modest level of density, especially considering the taller buildings just blocks away! To the city: make policy decisions based on facts, not feelings and hyperbole. Prioritize the city's economic sustainability instead of neighborhood tribalism. Recognize good, pedestrian-oriented development and reward it. Municipalities across metro St. Louis have been devastated because they are saddled with low-density development and parking lots that don't produce enough revenue. Don't fall victim to a cycle of insolvency and a mindset of stagnation. The comments on this petition represent selection bias in favor of a loud yet small group. Don't let a selfish minority control your decision-making.
