Foreign investors should have to pay a greater amount to purchase residences in Vancouver and they should have to pay the same or extra taxes when they purchase and sell the homes. If the foreign investor home is vacant with no owner or renter the owner should have to pay additional levies above the property taxes due to a "neighbourhood enhancement fee".

Home affordability is not a luxury, it is a human right. Our 2 income family can barely afford to rent a home in Vancouver. Vancouver is our home and we call on all governments to take action to support our best interests to live here and for our children to continue to thrive.

Our 3 levels of government have done nothing to stop this flow of untaxed foreign capital inflating our housing market. It is time to close provincial tax loopholes and pressure the federal government to force Quebec to shut down the investor program.

How can Richmond have the highest child poverty? How is a Canadian citizen able to live and work abroad while their family lives in million dollar homes and claim no income tax?

As a Canadian citizen, Vancouverite for over 40 years, I am signing this petition because I feel the future generations will never be able to afford a home in Vancouver. It's saddens me to see the government turn a blind eye on the Vancouver Housing market Crisis.

Agreed. Unfortunately, all 3 levels of government continue to take our hard earned tax money and do nothing for the people while foreign money drives up the housing market. It's such a shame! I wish we don't have to pay income tax as they are not doing their jobs!

Perhaps implement the Australian system that requires foreign owners to buy only *new* homes, which means that they will later have to sell it to a local, likely at a loss

I feel for all of those good people working and trying their best to provide a good life formthemselves and family. this means I also feel for anyone who comes here from another country to do the same- any country. But, government exists to enact policy that regulates and fosters healthy economic and social environments in our country, province and municipality. when an event outside our borders has a major affect on us we see government act. think of the migrant boats that come to BC every once in a while- quaranteened and all thos poor souls , fleeing war by the way, are sent back to where they cam from. yet, we now see thousands of people coming here and having a much more net negative effect on our Country, province and especially municipality that accepting thos boat migrants would have had. it has been shown that after many years of a governement investor immigrant program that these immigrants contribut less to our economy that refugees do. Please hold a moment and think about this. we are being taken advantage of by people who do not have an ounce of respect for our institutions or culture. are you getting angry yet?. Don't, you will be labelled a rascist. Instead, calmly tell yourself that the new Liberla government will surely do something and then contact your new MP and tell them you want something done.

im just a regular guy trying to provide for my family. we were expecting to buy a townhouse in Burnaby a year ago. had planned it out for 5 years, saved, scrimped, deferred Mexico vacations, kept old minivan, and I took a second job on weekend (60 hrs week) for the last 12 months to put another 15k away. All of this effort and planning is washed away by the meteoric rise in prices. we have watched townhomes that were $600k (our affordability limit) go up $10k every minth since last year. We give up, we cant possibly keep up. its demoralizing, and frankly it makes me angry. we have done everythung in our power to buy a home, only to see that dream shattered by an artificial and totally avoidable phenomenom driven by geopolitical forces outside our country coupled with naive foolish lack of leadership in our country. this is not a fringe issue, this is not a partisan issue, this is an existential civic issue in Vancouver and Toronto whhere together, a full 25% of Canadians live. and by the way, it is also a legal issue. Rampant tax evasion by foreigners and non-adherence to federal proceeds of crime legislation by the real estate industry and our Banks ( yes, our world is envious banks are knowingly turning a blind eye to this) is facilitating this carnival. one could not make up this story have make it believable...it is hard to grasp the overwhelming affect it is having on thousands of individulas and families unless you are here in the lower mainland. Where the f&ck are our leaders on this? Every month vancouver homes rise by 20 to 35 thousand dollars!!!
