This is abhorent and counter to what education is about. There at no point a challenge to children or families held beliefs and while puritanical standards and practices to be the back bone of the the texas legal system, I believe those who instilled those beliefs are dead and rotten in the ground, and so should their outdated ideologies be. Grow Up.

Who someone is married to doesn't have anything to do with being a great teacher. The school has the opportunity to teach their students that bigotry has no place in their school and the world.

Why penalize students and deprive them of a good teacher for talking about her family?! The kids have access to the Internet - they'll find out about all this eventually! Completely asinine!

Sexual orientation has no bearing on being a good teacher. This is discrimination and quite embarrassing that a state in the United States, which prides itself on freedom, is involved in something this assanine in this day and age.

I don't live in Texas, but it is shocking and disgusting to me that the people in power down there are still trying to lie their way out of clear and obvious sexual discrimination.

As a teacher I think it is imperative that the legal equality we have achieved through marriage rights be reflected in how teachers are permitted to communicate with their students. If it is legal to marry a person, there should be no consequence for mentioning that spouse to students. A teacher should not fear being honest with their students about something as simple as who their spouse is. This double standards should not be allowed to continue. The rights of all LGBT persons should be equally protected under any modern nondiscrimination policy. To do otherwise violates the very spirit of american justice and fairness that we teach our children.
