As a student I feel safer and much more content knowing that my teachers are aware and knowledgeable of the LGBT+ community and making other students who may tend to pick on us and or turn to bullying aware of our pronouns and how we should rightfully be treated .

As a parent I would hope my children’s school would protect and treat my children fairly whether straight or gay. I would also hope teachers would do the right thing and stand up for what is right and the kids they teach, just as this teacher did.

It is appalling and a stain on MISD that they do not protect their LGBQT community. As a graduate of Mansfield High School, I am embarrassed and ashamed by the close-minded, hate-filled decision to remove a beloved teacher from a school due to their sexual orientation. In 2015, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission concluded that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 does not allow sexual orientation discrimination in employment because it is a form of sex discrimination. Currently 22 states plus DC and Puerto Rico outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation. It is time to be make history and take a stand. Do what is right. MISD should protect both their students and teachers from all forms of discrimination.

These employees and students need to be protected from discrimination. Since school district employees have stated their intentions for the current policy to include LGBTQ persons, formalizing it needs to be the next step.

As society changes policies need to become more inclusive to protect employees and students. Sexual orientation should not be used against anyone, ever. The right to love is a fundamental human right, regardless of who loves who.

Ms.Bailey is the best teacher ever to go to Charlotte Anderson Elementry school. She helped me through times that were rough and now she is not working because she is lesbian and there is nothing wrong with that. Everyone is different and in school posters say that don’t follow, be a leader, she is leading us to accept everyone for who they are

It’s tragic that you’d deprive your students the opportunity to learn and grow with a passionate and dedicated educator over your close-minded HR language. Although I’m sure she’s dedicated to her students and her MISD families, she’ll have a standing opportunity to work within my school!
