As a member of the LBGT community that was active in art classes throughout school, it's important that we don't show these children that you can fire someone because of their sexuality. You're showing these children it's ok to discriminate, you're showing the parents who take issue with her showing a slide of her spouse, that they can bully and harass someone for being different.

This is NOT okay. People shouldn't have to hide who they are. Teachers should be fired based on performance, not sexual orientation.

When I was in elementary school, I thought "lesbian" was a slur and a curse. I would have had a much easier coming out had I been exposed to a teacher like her. Sexual orientation is not inappropriate for children to know about, and banning an award winning teacher for having a wife is discrimination. There are not enough good teachers in the world and suspending one for being lesbian is disgusting and preventing more good teachers from going into the field.

Teachers should not feel that they are risking their jobs if they mention their families or spouses. Put Ms. Bailey back in the classroom teaching art where she belongs.

Teachers always make comments about their girlfriends/boyfriends or husbands/wives. Not a problem if they’re straight. Why should it be any different if they’re gay?

It’s so hurtful to force us to pretend to be something we aren’t in front of kids, under the guise that “they won’t understand” when really, it’s just homophobia you’re touting. Here’s what children don’t understand: they don’t understand hate. Hate is the province of adult bigots and fearmongers. To children, and to any rational human, love is love. Give this woman her damn job back. You sack all the good teachers, the kind teachers, the ones that will be pulling us all into the future, and then you complain about uneducated, ignorant youth. In this day and age with everybody coming out and kids killing themselves why would anybody be against her. This is ridiculous to put all thru this.
