I have had more teaches talk about their husbands or wives in the class room than I can count. Many of which have photos on their desks or even as their background on their computer which is projected on the wall. If you are to suspend her or to fire her over this, then you will be discriminating against sexual orientation, and should be rightfully be sued.

I know it may be too late to show this, because you presented it on Tuesday, however I would like to say my son is a student at DP Morris elementary school and after reading this, I will be transferring him to an Arlington ISD school, where it is okay for elementary school students to know that one of their teachers is gay without it causing such a controversy. (I worked for AISD.) I wanted him in Mansfield schools for a higher quality of education but instead find that having a higher quality of morals and understanding society to be more important. No age is too soon to begin discussing these issues, it is important for our children to learn how to recognize a human soul from a young age, and teaching them that sexual orientations are something to be ashamed of at such a young age is disturbing, unethical, and entirely uncalled for. May all of those who put this poor woman suffer the consequences of your actions. If your concerns are religious, then shame on you again, because Jesus loves all, sinner or saint. Jesus hung with the gentiles, and it said so in the Bible. If your concerns aren’t religious then I don’t know what your problem is, maybe you need a counselor to help you sort that out. So sad.

Wisconsin high school senior here! We have many LGBT teachers in our district who are able to talk openly and freely about their sexualities without the threat of punishment or retribution like what this teacher is facing. This is extremely important for people like myself, who are queer (or questioning even) because it helps show kids that it’s okay to talk about their sexuality with people they care about, and it helps demonstrate that you can be successful and loved regardless of sexuality. Even if parents want to talk about sexuality on their own time, a teacher explaining her sexuality to a group of elementary school age kids only gives them a different take on sexuality that they will hear later in life, and parents can still explain their beliefs to their children when they feel the time is right. Chances are extremely high that the child was already exposed to LGBT people in their lives or heard about sexuality from a classmate. As much as some parents want to, it’s really difficult to control how your child hears most information, because there’s a whole big world out there that doesn’t care how you want to raise your child, and that’s the truth of it. This district should be ashamed of its actions; what they did resembles a 1950s reaction rather than a 2018 reaction . Stick to worrying about student’s learning and less about sexuality. It’s not the superintendent’s job to control a teachers personal life or beliefs.

Everyone needs to SUPPORT LGBTQ rights for the children. If not, they will not feel safe to be who they are. This teacher was not only exceptional in her field of study, but she was a safe place for the children, not a corrupter. Teach the children to be above the HATE and DISCRIMINATION.

Just because we are apart of the LGBTQ+ community does not mean we are any different from the rest of the world & does not mean we should be treated any differently

need a discussion on this issue and some idea of what is and is not appropriate behavior in the classroom. It a student asks a teacher her sexual orientation is she supposed to lie to them? Please join the current Century!!!
