What kind of message does this send to the LGBT youth in her class? It's not okay to talk about who you are, and if you love another that's the same gender as you, you should keep it hush. I can't believe this is even a fight in 2018 America. It makes me sick.

All 3 of my kids go to MISD! For this teacher to be put on leave is insane to me! She has a right to speak of her spouse! If it were a husband nothing of this sort would be brought up! It’s is ridiculous and I am backing this teacher 100%

If you really want your child to grow up and understand who they are: you should be letting them experience the world as it comes to them (while remaining safe, obviously...) instead of insisting on some kind of heteronormative reality-bubble that really does more harm than good. Just how I feel..

There should be no discrimination regarding the mention of a teachers personal life. Whether they are gay or straight or bi. Children are exposed to these concepts in every day life and a teacher is a person who has a story and a life. Reconsider your position please.

I didn't figure out I was bisexual until I was 15, and didn't realize I was trans until I was 19. Even though my school was accepting and queer-positive, no class I took even mentioned queer issues. Just one teacher talking about it even for one class might have saved me years of depression, confusion and denial.

If parents want a bigoted education for their children they can send them to a private school. "parents rights" is a ridiculous excuse to put a wonderful teacher on leave in a state that desperately needs quality educators.

I can't believe you have suspended a teacher just for referencing her wife. You do know SCOTUS ruled that gay marriage is legal? You are setting a horrible example for children, including the 5%-10% of your students who are likely queer.
