Signed for equal treatment. There was no "agenda" being pushed. If she can't talk about her wife, then other teachers cannot talk about their significant others either.

I am not in the district, but believe the teacher should be brought back. A teacher shouldn't be relieved of their duties for mentioning they're gay. In today's world, we should be teaching acceptance for everyone, and that includes people with disabilities AND the LGBTQ community. They should feel safe and accepted. Students should feel safe knowing their is a teacher who understands them on their level, and knows that teacher will fight to protect them. I would be honored for Miss Bailey to teach my children. They need to be taught art history, something that is not taught enough anymore.

Riddle me this: If Ms. Bailey wasn't fired over her sexual orientation, then why was she fired for mentioning her spouse is a woman? Would a heterosexual person get in the same trouble for mentioning their spouse?
Ms. Bailey should've never been fired and this school knows it.

Firing the teacher of the year for talking about her spouse ... sounds like Texas! This nonsense is the reason Texans have a reputation for being bigots. Might as well have your faculty dress like the KKK if THOSE are the values you want to teach the children.

I can't believe they suspended a teacher just because she didn't hide the fact that she is gay. Shame on this school district.

I grew up in MISD, and always felt like the school district did a good job in creating good academic environments - from K through 12 I had amazing and thoughtful teachers. I'm angry and saddened that this talented and well-loved teacher is being subject to discrimination by one parent, and that the school district seems to be complicit.

I’ve lived in MISD for 20 years and had students in the district for the past 18 years. I support a written policy protecting LGBTQ teachers, staff, and students from discrimination in MISD.
