This is blatant discrimination!!! It would be no different for firing her if she had a black or Asian husband. There is no place in the US still for this kind of intolerance! REINSTATE this teacher!!!

The only way it should be construed as "inappropriate" for this teacher to mention being married to a woman would be if the district considers it "inappropriate" for ANY teacher to talk about their spouses and live outside school ... which would have a HUGE negative impact on students and the learning environment.

I attended Mansfield in high school and felt so persecuted and targeted by the staff there. Think about the message this is sending to kids - and especially to gay children. What a disgrace.

Small-minded people make big problems for those who don't fit in their little box that was created for them by others. This teacher has already proven herself to be exemplary in her conduct and job. The parent who called is probably a homophobe and a religious one at that which has nothing to do with having morals. Do the right thing and reinstate this teacher and give her a raise for acting homophobic and not standing up for your award-winning employee.

Her sexuality has no affect on the way she teaches the children in her class. It's 2018 already, people should know this by now. It's wrong and clear discriminating what this school has done and she deserves her job back alright.

Acknowledging a same-sex spouse is and discussing same-sex couples in history is not the same thing as discussing sex with students. Stop using your personal bigotry and complete incompetence at drafting public relations statements as an excuse to damage a public servant’s character.
