LG BH-200 users ask LG to provide BD-Live support
NOTE: As of the June 30, 2009 Firmware Update, the BH-200 player has added BD-Live (Blu-Ray Profile 2.0) support! It requires a USB memory stick plugged into the USB port on the front of the unit (1 gigabyte or greater, formatted with the FAT32 system) The originator of this petition would like to thank LG for issuing this update, and thank iPetitions for the opportunity to publicize this issue. Original Petition Text Follows: We the undersigned are owners of LG's BH-200 model Super-Blu HD-DVD / Blu-Ray player. We respectfully request that LG make good on the claims made in the press release dated September 5th, 2007, when the BH-200 player was announced, that this player is capable of supporting BD-Live functionality. http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.plACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/09-05-2007/0004656707&EDATE= This player can not support BD-Live functionality without a firmware upgrade. As home theatre enthusiasts and early adoptors of new home theatre technologies, our choice of the BH-200 player was partially predicated on LG supporting this hardware. High definition media support featuring High Definition Content Protection (HDCP) requires firmware upgrades over time to ensure decryption keys are updated. We suggest that such a firmware update could include support for BD-Live functionality as alluded to in LG marketing materials. We understand that LG has no legal requirement to provide BD-Live support via a firmware upgrade. Nonetheless, we call upon LG to provide this firmware upgrade as proof of their willingness to support both their products and their customers.
