Oppose the Lexden Bus Lane Proposals

Drastic changes as proposed are not needed for a problem that only occurs for 60-90 minutes Monday to Friday. Part of the route is through a Conservation area which is an attractive walk into town. Pedestrian safety would be compromised by this scheme. Large groups of schoolchildren on wet, windy days would be put at risk by a two-way cycle lane. The money set aside for such a scheme could be used more effectively on other traffic problems around Colchester and throughout Essex.

There is already a huge amount of traffic congestion on Lexden road during peak school hours. I strongly feel a new bus Lane is definitely going to add to this problem and not resolve it. Eventually causing the children to be late to school.

This proposal is unnecessary and dangerous, money could be better spent on highways elsewhere in Colchester. There are only problems in Lexden Rd twice a day; at the beginning and end of the school day. Narrowing the pavement slightly at the bus stops to allow buses to pull over more and not block the road would be far more beneficial.

Silly idea - don't do it!

This is a ridiculous scheme and completely ignores the safety and welfare of a significant number of children and students who use the pavements to get to and from school/colleage on a daily basis.

I walk along the Lexden Road everyday to take my young son to school. I do not want his or my safety put at risk because of an idealistic view! During school start and leave times, there is very little room on the existing pavements due to the sheer volume of students that use this route to get to and from school. To make this even smaller and to share this with cyclists is a ridiculous and dangerous idea.

As much value as the Winstree road cycles lane

Stop wasting our money on unnecessary road schemes and fill the potholes instead.

The congestion for an hour a day on Lexden Road is caused in the same way that all congestion is caused in Colchester - by the appaulingly-designed traffic flow and the continuous repairs to the ancient and hopelessly-neglected infrastructure system.

this proposal is far too dangerous for children going and leaving schools in the lexden area

It will cause absolute choas and nothing will be gained. The council should spend their energy on easing traffic problems at north station. I'm still got a slip road from great horkesley onto A12.

I am strongly opposing the proposal for bus lane on Lexden road. The road is already a very narrow road. Not sure how are they going to do an extra bus lane.I feel it is a dangerous thing to do and will cause dangerous accident and very bad traffic(Already very congested during the mornings and afternoons.)

this proposal does not consider the safety of people walking on the pavement shared by cyclist and pushchairs

I believe that adding a bus lane and reducing the pavements will be very dangerous for not just us but our older generation and the children who use these paths to walk into town etc. The paths are busy and the traffic is terrible as it is. This does NOT promote a healthy way of exercise and getting people active, this will deter people from using these paths because they will feel unsafe. Instead of adding to the traffic we should be encouraging the younger generation into a healthy wellbeing way of life by walking. With the amount of children using these paths, I feel will actually endanger their lives more. This is supposed to be the Oldest recorded town and taking away all these lovely footpaths are damaging and adding more pollution which we are one of the highest polluted areas around as it is. This is absolutely ridiculous and Councillor Bass does not even live in Colchester so why have someone make decisions for this town when they don't even use it or live here, absolutely absurd and ridiculous is an understatement!!!

I honestly believe that a bus lane on Lexden road will cause more problems than it solves &, by reducing pavement space for the schoolchildren, will only end in one of them getting knocked down by a vehicle.

Not necessary, if it is not broke why mend it. Will add to traffic congestion as road is too narrow

Lexden road is too narrow for a bus lane and will only add to the traffic congestion, it would be an absolute joke whilst the works took place and colchester is at times at a standstill now, in my view a complete waste of tax payers money and unnecessary!

This proposal: (1) will discourage active sustainable travel, particularly for vulnerable road users: the elderly, the young, and cyclists. (2) is an outdated design, based on prioritising vehicles, not people. (3) fails to consider the wider context, such as the parallel Cymbeline Way route, which is not residential. (4) is not even a complete proposal, particularly west of Lexden Grove. (5) fails to adopt best practice from other areas and lacks imagination or innovation. (6) lacks any evidence base on which to spend £5million.

It is congested enough without narrowing the road with a bus lane
