I oppose this as there is no need, just unblock the area by the Lexden crown pub , this is only school traffic so will not change . However i have no doubt the council will do what they like and wreck one of the beautiful roads this town has left

Is this some kind of sick joke? This is an abhorrent, reprehensible strategy which will only cause increased difficulties for road users, pedestrians and cyclists. It is a simply ridiculous proposal which will provide very little benefits in our area. It's disappointing that these top down strategies are being employed when it is clear that the council need an increased focus on local community benefits. Very poor.

This proposed project is a complete waste of money. A bus lane will cure nothing . Bus lay-bys would help . At school time buses are stationary, picking up a full load of children . At the same time almost opposite in the other direction another bus is doing the same . No traffic can then get by .

The idea of pedestrians and cyclists sharing a lane is crazy. This proposal sounds extremely dangerous.

This road runs smoothly for the vast majority of the day, delays are experienced for approximately 1/2 an hour twice a day in term time ( private school term time at that). This minor inconvenience is absolutely not worth endangering our children's lives by imposing difficulties for them walking and crossing Lexden Rd.

I oppose this proposal as it is unnecessary and will result in poor provision for cyclists, putting them in conflict with pedestrians against best practice advice.

I am a cyclist and cannot understand the idea of cyclists and pedestrians sharing a pavement. In parts of town where pedestrians and cyclists share the pavements are just used for moving traffic. Leyden Road is frequently crowded by students congregating before or after school.

I went to school at Colchester Royal Grammar School. I am now a Civil Engineer a major global civil engineering company. From a professional perspective, I am confused by the reasoning and sanity of the proposed design.
All new infrastructure designs should consider cyclists as a key user. To put cyclists on pavements in conflict with pedestrians and with a smaller space is pure madness. I discussed this with colleagues and there was a general consensus that this is a very archaic and narrow-minded short cut solution, potentially against all design codes and current legislation.
From personal experience, I see no need for this. That people should feel entitled to use of private cars is old fashioned. Cycling and walking should be encouraged, as the new segregated lanes in London have proved, physical activity can be increased with safer routes. You are creating an alley of danger and polution during the times students are walking to school. At all other times you are removing vital safety features to give refuge against what can be very fast traffic on the wide road, a danger that will only get worse.
I am disappointed to be an engineer when I see such ill-conceived concepts even being considered.

This is a ridiculous idea! Children walk to school on this road. There is no way cyclists can share the pavement with them

This is ridiculous! Have you tried cycling on the shared Crouch Street path, then this would never be a suggestion! People walk out in front of you, don't hear the bell you're ringing and then people unloading back into you with boxes! It's safer on the road!!! It's madness with all the school children about there will be numerous accidents that could be avoided!

Current proposal is ill conceived with no regard for children's safety and what the area needs. Cycling and walking should be encouraged.
