Lexden Rd is fine. It's a ridiculous and dangerous idea to change it. I'm strongly against a bus lane.

It is a dangerous idea to have cyclists sharing a narrowed pavement with pedestrians – especially as it is used by throngs of schoolchildren at various times of the day. Why not widen the three lanes leading to the Maldon Road roundabout so that buses don't cause such long jams each morning by taking up two lanes, and mark Keep Clear areas on the roundabout to deter cars from blocking the roundabout.

ECC will argue that the money has been allocated from some central quango, and if it's not used for this, then it will be sent back. They will say they can't allocated to something else. Well I say, it's better to sent the money back and not waste it, so that it can be reallocated by this quango to a more worthy cause (or used to pay for the £trillions brexit will cost us).

Lexden Road doesn't lend itself a bus lane and the thought of cyclists and pedestrians mixing on a narrow path fills me with dread. Therefore, I strongly object.

I fear for the safety of so many school-children on pavements that are already overcrowded at peak times.

As per Ms. Budgen, I too object to the proposed bus lane on Lexden Road because: 1. It will make the road exceptionaly hazardous for children before and after school 2. It will be hazardous for pedestrians and cyclists having to share a narrow pavement 3. It would ruin the aesthetic appeal of one of the few generously proportioned roads in Colchester. 4. There is absolutely nothing to be gained from introducing a bus lane on this road as the only congestion is caused by buses stopping which could be addressed through two parking bays.

Lexden road is not wide enough to cater for the bus lane proposal and provide a safe environment for pedestrians and cyclists. I am particularly worried about the safety of school children who in their large numbers throng the existing width of pavement.

Lexden Road is not suitable to have bus lanes. It's not wide enough.
It is one of Colchester's main arteries. It is also a residential area with many schools along its route including The Royal Grammar School, Oxford House, English Study Centre, access route to Girls High School, Boys High School, Philip Morant, St Benedicts.
The pavements are filled with School Children who walk to and from school - at beginning and end of day - and also access Crouch St at lunchtimes.
It's a busy street. People first not buses.

This will not relieve traffic congestion or speed up the buses times. There must also be safety concerns fir students on the path sharing with cycles.

I oppose the new proposed bus lane. It will narrow the path where students have to walk and wait increasing risk.

A lot of money for a scheme that will add no value and destroy the look of Lexden Road.

Perhaps the planners should try cycling on the pavement at it's current width at school chuck out time?

This road is in the Conservation area. There is only congestion one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon, only during school term time.
