I oppose the proposal for a bus lane on Lexden Road. A bus-lane will endanger pedestrians, the majority of which are children at certain times of day. Cyclists will also be put at increased risk. Pavements are already crowded with school children at the start and end of school time and narrowing the pavements would be a very serious error.

The main congestion problem on Lexden Road is related to the schools and limited to a short periods of time at the start/ end of the school day. In the short stretch where the school buses stop, the bus lane will create narrow and dangerous pavements; along the rest of the road it will provide no real benefit and destroy the existing environment enjoyed by residents and by all who use the road, including many pedestrians. The proposal is therefore a pernicious waste of money. A solution to the congestion related to the schools should focus on creating layby bus stops where the pavement width can be maintained so that stopped buses do not impede traffic flow..

Reducing the width of one pavement and converting the other to shared use increases the risk of accident to the many schoolchildren using them, especially at the end of the school day. I therefore object to this proposal.

This would be unsafe and is unnecessary. An additional lay-by would help but to remove most of the pavement endangers pedestrians, cyclists and in particular the school children who emerge in large groups and walk along towards town.

Why destroy one of the most iconic routes into Colchester. It will cause chaos and danger to youngsters on the pavements. Cyclists Do NOT use their bells, even if they have one.

I am again this bus lane. It is unnecessary and will endanger the lives of scores of school children.

Stupid idea! Spend the money on making Avenue of Rememberence two lanes in each direction instead.

Totally unnecessary and will cause accidents and injuries due to restricted pavements at school times. Congestion only occurs for 30 mins in the morning and 30 mins in the afternoon - i.e. start and end of school day.

This will place children's safety at risk. This area has one of the highest concentrations of schools in the UK.

Even as a student at Colchester Royal Grammar School, I think it is a proposal that will, in fact, scratch the itch rather than making it better. I assume you are trying to reduce the congestion created by parked buses on Lexden Road by making a cramped street even smaller - where is the logic?

Crazy idea

This is another ridiculous idea for Colchester's roads. The complete danger to school children, on an already crowded pavement is obvious to anyone who lives here. It is not worth one single injury of any children. Colchester council will be totally liable for such a stupid and dangerous proposal.

I have never heard of such a ludicrous hairbrained stupid idea. One of the most used roads in Colchester, Often choked with school buses, school run cars and worrkers trying to get to and from their place of work and the porposal is to NARROW the road to the public. Just who does this council serve? Certainly not the inhabitants that placed them in their position. I understand that some mature trees will have to be removed, disgraceful! I am totally opposed to this idea.

What are you thinking about? Walkers and cyclists sharing a pavements? I don't think so. Traffic calming islands removed, is that what they are called? These help people to cross the road especially the elderly. How do you propose they cross? Sorry I thought you didn't have any money, well it looks like you have so use it on improving our disgusting roads in Colchester which are full of potholes and resurface them properly not bits here and bits there. I understand that Lexden Road gets busy in the mornings but this is ridiculous.

I am concerned about the reduction in pavement size as they are absolutely full of children at school finishing time, I think some would be tempted to step into the road.

Would be dangerous for school children from the surrounding schools. Most of the day the road is clear of traffic the bus lane would only be necessary when the schools exit precisely the time that many children congregate on the pavements. Fast moving buses could cause a child's death.
